Cat-only veterinary clinic · Portland, Maine

A calmer vet visit, built for cats.

Whisker & Well sees cats and nothing else. No dogs in the waiting room, gentle handling, and appointments that move at your cat's pace — from a first kitten exam to senior comfort care.

Care by age

Care that changes as your cat does

A cat of seven months and a cat of seventeen years need different things. We plan every visit around the age, health and temperament of the cat in front of us.

01 · Kittens

Kitten care and first visits

A gentle nose-to-tail exam, a weight and growth check, and the start of a vaccination schedule — at a pace that suits a young cat. We also cover feeding, litter boxes and scratching, so the habits start well.

  • First exam
  • Vaccination schedule
  • Feeding and litter guidance

02 · Adults

Wellness exams, vaccinations and dental care

A yearly exam checks weight, coat, teeth, heart and joints, so small changes get noticed while they are still small. Core vaccines stay on schedule, and we look at the mouth at every visit.

  • Annual wellness exams
  • Core vaccinations
  • Dental assessment

03 · Seniors

Senior care and nutrition

Older cats change slowly, and then all at once. We see senior cats more often, watching appetite, weight, mobility and grooming, and adjusting nutrition and routine to keep the later years comfortable.

  • Senior wellness exams
  • Nutrition counseling
  • Comfort planning

Everything we do for cats

Six things, done properly. Every visit starts with a conversation about your cat rather than a checklist.

06

In-home visits

For cats who travel badly, we bring the exam to your living room. The same hands-on care, with no carrier and no car ride.

How home visits work
Everyday care

Small habits that keep cats well

The advice we repeat most often in the exam room, between appointments.

01

Offer water in more than one place

Cats drink less than we expect. A fountain or a wide, shallow bowl, refreshed daily and kept away from the food dish, invites more drinking — worth watching closely in older cats.

02

Give them height and sun

A perch at head height and a warm windowsill do more than they look like they do. A few minutes of play each day keeps an indoor cat stretched, curious and settled.

03

Write down what changes

A skipped meal, a new limp, more hiding, a duller coat, a change in the litter box. Note the date and bring the note to your visit — patterns are easier to spot on paper.

House calls

For cats who don't travel well

Some cats find the carrier, the car and the waiting room harder than the exam itself. For those cats — and for multi-cat homes and older cats who would rather stay put — we bring the appointment to you.

  • Exam, weight and general health check at home
  • Vaccinations and routine care when appropriate
  • Nutrition and daily-routine advice at your kitchen table
