Notices of public auction

Sales are posted in the order they are called. Each notice states where the sale is held, how it may be bid, and the terms that apply.

Live Saturday, March 14 · 10 a.m.

To be sold: the contents of a house, and the house.

Ardsley Park · Abercorn St. · Savannah

A single-owner estate offered in one session. Furniture, silver, china, glass and books, followed by the real property itself, called in the order the auctioneer reads them from the front room. The house opens for inspection before the sale and stays open through it.

How the sale runs

Auctions are public events. The order of business is the same at every sale, and anyone may attend, inspect and bid — six steps, from a bidding number to the collection of a lot.

01

File the notice

Registration opens a bidding number in your name. File the form below, or register at the desk on the morning of the sale.

02

Inspect the lots

Lots are on view before the sale opens. Attend the inspection, or ask the register about an object you cannot examine yourself.

03

Bid in the room

The auctioneer calls the sale in order, from the front of the house, the shop floor or the porch. Live auctions are held on site.

04

Bid online

The catalogue is posted to the register and online bidding stays open until the auctioneer reaches each lot.

05

Bid by absentee

Leave a maximum bid with the register. The auctioneer bids on your behalf, and no bid is taken above the figure you left.

06

Settle and collect

Settlement and collection are arranged with the register at the close of the sale, in the order the lots were called.

Beyond the block Estate services

Estate sales, liquidation and appraisal.

Auction is not the only way a house changes hands. Where a family wants a quiet weekend rather than a public sale, the contents are arranged, priced and sold room by room in an estate sale, and nothing is called from a lectern.

Where a building has to be cleared, property liquidation removes and sells the contents in place, so the floor is empty on the day the keys change.

Where the value of an object is in question, antique appraisals are made at the register — silver, porcelain, paintings, furniture, and the odd thing found at the back of a wardrobe.

Notice of intent to bid

One notice serves every sale on the register. File it once and your bidding number holds for the room, the online catalogue and any absentee bid you leave.

Notice of intent to bid Vintage Estates Auctions · Savannah, Ga.

State the sale you intend to bid and how you mean to bid it. The register confirms your number before the auction opens, and no further filing is needed for the same sale.

Method of bidding

Filing a notice does not commit you to bid.

Standing notice

Registration is open for every sale on the register.

Bid in the room, bid online, or leave an absentee bid and let the auctioneer do the calling. One notice covers all three, and the register keeps your number from sale to sale.
