Every net has tears. Every tear can be mended.

Tide Mill Counseling is a Portland practice for anxiety, depression, relationships, and the things that are hard to say out loud. We work beside you — tying new knots where the old ones have slipped.

What we mend

The knots we tie most often.

A net holds because of how it's knotted, not because it's perfect. Whatever brought you here, we'll find the shape of it together and start tying.

How the work goes

Stronger where it's been mended.

Therapy here is collaborative and unhurried. You don't need a diagnosis, a script, or the right words — you need somewhere to start, and we'll find that together.

  1. 01

    Reach out

Send a short note or leave a message. As much or as little as you'd like to share — just enough to begin.

  2. 02

    First conversation

We meet for a first session and get a sense of what's going on. You set the pace; nothing is forced.

  3. 03

    Find the pattern

Together we look at where the strain keeps landing — the thought loops, the arguments, the places it hurts.

  4. 04

    Tie new knots

You leave with something practical to try between sessions. Over time, the repairs hold.

Why mending

A net isn't weakened by mending.

It's made stronger — the knot holds exactly where the strand once pulled apart.

The practice

A calm room, and someone in your corner.

Tide Mill Counseling is a Portland practice built around a simple idea: people do better when they're not doing it alone. We're warm without being vague, and practical without turning your life into a worksheet.

Sessions are in person in Portland, or over secure video when that's what fits your week.

  • Collaborative You're the one who knows your life. We bring questions and tools; you decide what fits.
  • Unhurried Sessions aren't rushed. Some weeks you'll need to talk it out before anything changes.
  • Practical You'll leave with something concrete to try — because the mending happens between sessions too.

Teletherapy

The same room, wherever you are.

Secure video sessions are a full version of the work — not a lesser one. Useful on a week with no lunch break, a long commute, or a winter that keeps you home.

  • Secure, private video sessions — the same counseling, held remotely.
  • Works for individual, couples and teen sessions, with a private place to talk at each end.
  • A kitchen table and a pair of headphones is enough. We'll sort out the rest together.
  • Chosen by people who need therapy to fit around work, caregiving or a Maine winter.
