The Register

Historic rooms, ghost tours, and afternoon tea — three entries from the inn. Weddings and mystery weekends have entries of their own, down in Gatherings.

No. 01

Historic Rooms

Morning light in a historic inn bedroom with a quilted bed
A room at the top of the house, early light

Rooms kept up rather than done over: tall windows, wide sills, quilts on the beds, and floors that have heard a great many people come up the stairs. The house is old, and it is not pretending otherwise.

Tell us the nights you’re after and how many of you there’ll be, and we’ll tell you what’s open.

Ghost Tours

After dark we walk the halls and tell you what we know — which is rather more than we can prove. Bring a coat and a skeptical friend; the stairs are older than the stories and they have opinions.

Pot, cups, and something warm from the kitchen, served at the hour when the light comes in sideways. Sit as long as you like; nobody is asked to leave.

Come for the tea, stay for the second pot.

How to Book

Four moves and you’re in.

Your name goes down in the book in the order it arrives — no queue numbers, no algorithms, just the next line on the page.

  1. 1

    Choose an entry

A room, a tour, tea, a wedding, or a mystery weekend. If you’re torn between two, say so and we’ll tell you which one suits the season.

  2. 2

    Write to us

Your name, the dates you have in mind, and how many of you there’ll be. The form takes about a minute.

  3. 3

    We answer

A reply from the inn, with what’s open and — if it isn’t — what we’d suggest instead.

  4. 4

    Sign the line

We hold the dates, you confirm, and your name goes down in the book with everyone else’s.

Gatherings

Long tables, late evenings.

The sort of gathering that wants a room with a past and a table with space for one more. Tell us the shape of it, and we’ll tell you honestly whether the inn can hold it.

Weddings

Small weddings, done properly: the room, the table, the hour, and the words. Tell us how many of you there’ll be and what you want the day to feel like, and we’ll answer plainly — with what we can do, and no package you have to decode.

Mystery weekends

A weekend with a question in it. Guests arrive as guests and leave as suspects, and by Sunday breakfast somebody has to explain themselves. Come as a pair or bring a whole table’s worth of people.

Group tours and tea

Ghost tours and afternoon tea can be booked for a group as well — tell us how many and we’ll say what the house can take.
