Readings, book clubs, story hour and the new fiction on the front table. The calendar goes up in the shop window and reaches the list first — sign your name and we’ll write to you before we print a thing.

This month

A full calendar, kept by hand.

Readings, clubs and story hour are written up on the wall by the door, and the same list goes out to the newsletter first. Here is what runs at the shop.

  1. 01

    Author readings

A writer reads from a new book and takes questions after. Dates are posted in the shop and in the letter at the same time.

Book clubs

Read together. Argue a little.

Groups pick their own books and meet here. We keep the shelf stocked, the lamps on, and the door open to anyone who wants in.

  • Come as you are. Nobody quizzes you on the ending.
  • Copies of what the clubs are reading stay behind the counter.
  • Starting your own group? Tell us what you are reading and we will keep up.

Kids story hour

Small chairs, big stories.

Picture books read out loud, cushions on the floor, and nobody asked to sit still. The low shelves are for small hands — take your time with them.

  • Picture books, board books, and the one you will read forty times.
  • Story hour dates go out with the rest of the calendar.

Gifts & special orders

Books for other people.

Tell us who it is for and what they have loved lately, and we will find the book — or order any title, any press.

  • Special orders — any title, any press. We order it in and let you know when it arrives.
  • Gifts — for birthdays, thank-yous and the reader who already owns everything.
  • New fiction — the front table is where it lands first.
