An Almanac for the Home · Asheville, North Carolina

This season, make your home a shelter from the storm.

Stone & Thistle is a small interior design studio rooted in Asheville, working with homeowners across the Blue Ridge — room by room, season by season, with what the house already knows.

Contents

Four ways to begin.

Every project starts with a conversation, and almost every project starts small. Read down the list the way you'd read an almanac — take the entry that matches the season you're in. Prices below are where the work begins.

The Wheel

The mountain year, turned room by room.

A house in the Blue Ridge lives on a wheel. We work with that wheel rather than against it — letting the season decide what gets done next.

Spring

Light comes back into the rooms. Colour decisions made now will be tested by the brightest weeks of the year.

Summer

Long evenings and open doors. Furniture layouts get settled around how the house is actually used when it's warm.

Autumn

Wool, warm lamps, deeper greens. The rooms get their texture before the cold arrives.

Winter

Draughts and doors, blankets and lamplight. A shelter is a practical thing before it is a beautiful one.

Local Notes

Where we almanac.

We work with homeowners in the towns below and the country around them. Every project starts with a phone call, so the first question is simply whether we can get to you.

  1. 01

    Asheville

Home ground — the studio sits here, in the middle of the county.

  2. 02

    Hendersonville

Down the valley, south of the ridge.

  3. 03

    Waynesville

West over the mountains, on the far side of the county line.

  4. 04

    Surrounding Buncombe County

The hollows, the coves and the small towns in between.

Nearby but don't see your town? Call or text and we'll tell you straight.

Local Notes

Notes from the ridge.

A few things we've learned about houses in these mountains — the kind of wisdom an almanac is for. They shape how every project here begins.

Note OneOn mountain light

The light changes by the hour and by the ridge, so colours get chosen in the room, at the time of day you actually sit in it.

Note TwoOn what you already own

Most houses already hold half the answer. A refresh starts by moving what's there before anything new comes in the door.

Note ThreeOn winter

Doors and draughts, wool and warm lamps. Comfort first — the rest of the room can follow from there.
