The kit
A kit is packed against the family's own list, not a standard box off a shelf. Four things go in — and one of them is an invitation.
Packing day: housewares from the pickup run, sorted by size and stacked by the door.
Bought against the family's own list, out of the weekly grocery fund, so the first shop is fresh and familiar.
Plates, pots, bedding, a kettle — whatever the furniture and houseware pickup has gathered that week.
A volunteer driver for the first clinic visit, the school office, the market run, the bank.
A seat at an English conversation circle, every week, no fee and no teaching required.
Not everything in a kit fits in the box.
