Intake line open

Harbor radio — Someone is on the other end.

Emergency shelter, case management, housing assistance, meal services and counseling — all out of the same building in Seattle. Two channels: one for getting help, one for giving time.

[ ch 01 ]

Get help

Channel one — intake

Key up. Say what's happening.

Intake starts with one appointment. You talk, a case manager writes it down, and the same person stays on your file.

Need a bed tonight? Put that in the first line of the intake form so it reaches the desk first.

On this channel

  1. 01

You book a time. Pick the hours that work and send the form.

  2. 02

A case manager answers. One person, the same person, holding your file from here on.

  3. 03

The file opens. Emergency shelter, meals, counseling and housing assistance, in the order you need them.

One appointment, one case manager, and the same file the whole way through. No need to tell the story twice.

Take a shift

Channel two — volunteer

Give hours. Take a station.

Shifts are scheduled in blocks. Pick a station and the hours you can hold, and you go on the roster.

Stations

  1. 01

    Meal services. Plating, serving, cleanup.

  2. 02

Shelter floor. Desk check-ins, restocking, keeping the room steady.

  3. 03

Intake desk. Forms, filing, sitting with people while they wait.

  4. 04

Supply room. Sorting donations, moving crates, keeping shelves workable.

[ one shift ] [ weekly block ] [ groups welcome ]

One shift or a standing weekly block. Tell us the hours you can hold and we'll put you on the roster.

Services

Quieter channels — non-urgent traffic

Everything the shelter runs.

Urgent tonight? Use the intake form on Channel One. The rest can be read at your own pace.

All five run through the same intake. Book one appointment and the case manager routes you to what you need first — a bed, a meal, or the paperwork.

How it works

Read back

Four moves, in order.

  1. 01

    Key up

Book an intake appointment and say what's happening first.

  2. 02

    A case manager answers

One person takes your file from here and stays with it, start to finish.

  3. 03

    Bed and food

Emergency shelter and meal services hold the line while the rest moves.

  4. 04

    The file moves to housing

Housing assistance picks up applications and the steps that follow. Counseling sits on the same channel — ask for it whenever you want it.

Open call.

Two forms. Send the one that fits and the right desk picks it up.
