The log

Recent entries from the road.

Every call-out gets written down and photographed: where it was, what it was, and what it took to get it back on the road. Three entries from the notebook, before and after.

01
Worn scored brake rotor and thin pads on a jacked-up car in a driveway, wheel removed
Before — pads down to metal
Freshly replaced brake rotor and new pads fitted to the hub of the same car in the driveway
After — new rotor, new pads

Rotor was past the wear mark and the caliper was dragging enough to heat the wheel. New pads and rotors on both sides, done in the driveway with the car up on stands.

both sides, same visit
02
Rusted muffler and exhaust pipe held up with wire beneath a truck
Before — held up with wire
New exhaust pipe and muffler welded in place beneath the same truck
After — new pipe, welded in

A muffler that had no business being on the road. Strapped up with wire, pipe rotted through. Cut the old section out, welded in a new pipe and muffler, then ran it and checked every joint for leaks.

quoted before I cut
03
Worn tie rod end with a torn rubber boot on the front of a pickup truck jacked up in a gravel driveway
Before — boot torn, joint loose
New tie rod end and ball joint fitted to the steering linkage of the same pickup truck in the driveway
After — new tie rod, new joint

Front end wandered and clunked over every seam in the road. Torn boot on the tie rod end, ball joint had play in it. Replaced both, then a slow roll down the street to check the steering straight.
