Portland, Oregon — brand design studio

Can your brand survive the shelf?

Brand strategy, logo design, visual identity, brand guidelines and packaging — built to be read at arm's length, in three seconds, next to everybody else.

The premise

Pretty doesn't sell. Clear sells. Then pretty helps.

Studios like to talk about feeling. We start with reading — because the first encounter with a brand is rarely a considered one. It's a glance down an aisle, a box on a doorstep, a label in a hand.

So we build identities for the places customers actually meet them: the shelf, the package, the mailer, the page. Anything that only works on a big screen in a studio gets cut. What survives goes into the guidelines.

01

Can a stranger tell what it is?

Before they reach the small print, and before anybody explains it to them.

02

Does the tone hold?

Across a box, a label, a mailer and a page — one brand, not four cousins.

03

Will it still work next year?

When the range grows and the next product has to fit the system you already own.

What we do

Five disciplines, one system.

Each service stands on its own, but they are built to work together. Most projects touch all five before anything goes to print.

01

Brand strategy

Positioning, audience and the competitive set — the one sentence the brand has to hold before anyone draws a mark.

02

Logo design

A mark drawn on a grid and proved at small sizes first: single colour, on a label, at thumbnail scale, before it ever gets a palette.

03

Visual identity

Colour, type, layout and image direction assembled into a working system, so range five looks like it belongs with range one.

04

Brand guidelines

A plain rulebook: what's fixed, what flexes, what's off the table — with examples a printer or a new hire can follow alone.

05

Packaging design

Structure, dielines, materials, print and finish — where the brand leaves the screen and ends up in a hand, a bag or a doorstep.

The studio

Made in Portland. Built for the shelf.

Rosewood & Finch Design is a brand design studio in Portland, Oregon. We work with founders and product teams who are about to be looked at, compared and picked up — and who would rather find out how that goes before the print run.

A project starts with a discovery call: what you make, who's already on the shelf beside you, and what the brand has to do next. From there we work through strategy, mark, identity, guidelines and packaging, and hand over work your team can run without us.

Next step

Let's find out how your brand reads.

Bring what you've got — a product, a name, a half-finished logo, a range that's outgrown its packaging. A discovery call is where we start.
