How we teach

Scan. Predict. Act.

Defensive driving is a habit you build, not a list of rules you memorize. Every lesson runs the same loop, in the same order — first awareness, then reaction. It is what happens in the second before a driver looks up from a phone, or a door swings open at the curb.

01

Scan

Eyes moving, mirrors cycling, the whole field checked on a rhythm instead of one long stare at the bumper ahead.

02

Predict

Read the car drifting in its lane, the cyclist at the shoulder, the driveway with a nose poking out. Name the hazard early.

03

Act

Adjust speed, adjust space, adjust position. Small corrections made early beat one big correction made late.

Defensive driving course

Rain changes
the math.

The first rain after a dry spell lifts oil off the asphalt, and grip goes before drivers expect it. This drill is the one we run in the car — pick a condition and read what the student is working on.

01 — DryGrip nominal

Build the rhythm.

Light traffic, dry line. Mirrors on a five-second cycle and one hazard named out loud every block. Nothing here is difficult — it just gets repeated until the scan runs on its own.

02 — First rainOil lifting

The slickest twenty minutes.

The first rain after a dry spell is the worst grip the road will offer. Ease off the throttle, widen the gap, and treat every painted line and manhole cover as if it were ice.

03 — Standing waterPools in curb lanes

Read the dark patches.

Move toward the crown of the road where you can, and read the darker, glossier patches as standing water. Spot them early and it is a lane change; spot them late and it is a correction.

04 — Close trafficGap 3.0 sec

Braking distances stretch.

Three seconds behind the car ahead, more if it sits higher than yours. Look past it to the brake lights two cars further up — that is your real warning, not the bumper in front of you.

05 — Low visibilitySpray and glare

Slow down before you have to.

Heavy spray, glare, wipers fighting to keep up. Widen the gap, drop the speed and stop staring at the hood — the information you need is out at the intersection and arriving fast.

Parallel parking clinic

The tight stuff.

Parallel parking is the maneuver most drivers avoid for years, and the one that gets tested. We break it into four moves and run them until the sequence is muscle memory rather than guesswork.

  1. 01

    Set up

Mirror, signal, then pull alongside the front car with a car's width of daylight between you. Wheels straight, both cars level.

  2. 02

    Cut

Full lock toward the curb, creeping back until the angle is set. Slow hands on the wheel, eyes on the mirrors, not the wheel.

  3. 03

    Straighten

Unwind the lock and let the nose swing in. Watch the front bumper of the car ahead and the curb behind you at the same time.

  4. 04

    Square up

Finish with the wheels straight, check the spacing, and pull forward once before you turn the engine off.
