01 — The swatch library

Papers and inks, laid out to be handled.

Every commission starts at the table. Pull a stock, choose an ink, and see how the two sit together before a single word is set.

Four papers and four inks cover most suites. Anything else can be sourced for a commission — ask and we will tell you honestly whether it is worth the wait.

Papers

Four stocks
  • Cotton Rag

Soft and toothy, and it holds a deep impression without a shine.

  • Deckle Edge

Torn by hand along the outer edge of every card, so no two are quite alike.

  • Linen Weave

A fine cross-hatch that reads as cloth under the fingers.

  • Vellum Overlay

Translucent, laid over a print for a softened, layered look.

Inks

Mixed to order
Deep NavySerious and legible — the workhorse of a formal suite.
CoralWarm and bright. Best as an accent: a tab, a name, a small mark.
Ink BlackFor calligraphy and fine illustrated line work.
SlateA softened blue-grey for smaller type and details.

Pairings

Three to start
Cotton Rag + Deep NavyCrisp and formal on a soft sheet; easy to read across a room.
Linen Weave + CoralThe cloth texture settles the brightness of the coral.
Deckle Edge + SlateQuiet, and a little wild at the torn edge.

02 — Specimens

Three hands, one suite.

Calligraphy, illustration, and addressing are done at the same table, in the same inks as the print. Here is what each one looks like in progress.

Ask for any of them on their own, or all three on a single suite. Nothing is final until you have held the samples.

Calligraphy

Names, dates, and envelopes written by hand in a pointed-pen script, matched to the weight of the type on the invitation so the two sit together rather than compete.

Envelope addressing

Guest names in the same hand, the same ink, and the same spacing from the first envelope to the last — then stacked, ordered, and handed over ready to post.

  • Guest names
  • Return addresses
  • Assembled by hand

03 — Build a suite

Build the suite, piece by piece.

This is a starting list, not an order form. Mark what you are considering and bring it to your first conversation — pieces can be added later, once you have held the samples.

Most suites begin with the invitation and grow from there. Tell us what stage you are at and we will tell you what needs deciding first.

What a suite can include

  • 01 Paper stock Cotton rag, deckle edge, linen weave, or a vellum overlay.
  • 02 Ink colour Deep navy, coral, ink black, or slate — chosen on your stock, not on a screen.
  • 03 Wedding invitations & save the dates Designed as one suite, from the first card to the last.
  • 04 Calligraphy Pointed-pen names and dates, matched to the invitation type.
  • 05 Custom illustration A drawing made for your suite and carried through it.
  • 06 Envelope addressing Every envelope in one hand, then stacked in guest order.

04 — Custom orders

Tell us the date. We’ll start with the paper.

Send your date, your guest count if you have it, and the pieces you are considering — invitations, save the dates, calligraphy, illustration, or addressing. We will send swatches in the stocks and inks you liked and take it from there.
