Handmade ceramics · Asheville, North Carolina

Earth goes in.
Fire changes it.
You take home what survives.

A working ceramics studio in the mountains of western North Carolina. Throw a pot in a class, bring your own work to the kiln, or commission dinnerware built to be used every single day.

The kiln door comes open a hand’s width. Everything inside is still deciding what it will be.

01 — Mud

It starts cold, wet and completely unformed.

Clay arrives stiff and grey and a little stubborn. Wedging wakes it up. On the wheel it goes soft under your hands, takes a shape, and forgets it ever had another one.

That is the part we never get tired of — the minute the material decides to cooperate. It happens at the wheel, at the table, at the glaze buckets, and it happens here most days.

  1. 01
    Wedge

Knock the air out. Feel where the clay wants to go before it goes there.

  2. 02
    Center

Everything begins again at the middle of the wheel. Weight down, shoulders over, breath out.

  3. 03
    Throw or build

Pull a wall upward, or coil one up by hand. Same clay, two very different conversations.

02 — Fire

Then it gets loud, and there is nothing to do but wait.

Everything that goes into the kiln comes out different. Some of it comes out better. The whole studio is built around that bargain.

Pottery classes

Hands in clay from the first minute. We would rather you make something than watch us make it — so you wedge, you center, you glaze, and you come back for what you fired.

  • Hand-building at the table
  • Glaze and surface

Kiln firing

Made your work somewhere else? Bring it in. We load it, fire it, cool it, and you collect it once the door comes open.

  • Bisque firings
  • Glaze firings
  • Loading and unloading

03 — After

What comes out is cool, quiet, and yours.

Stacked handmade stoneware plates and bowls in deep green and copper glazes
Stacked and waiting — a custom dinnerware set

Custom dinnerware

Plates, bowls and serving pieces made to order in the shape and glaze you choose — built to be stacked, used, washed, and used again.

We start with a conversation and a few glaze tests, then go from there.

Wedding registry

A registry of things that outlive the toaster. Choose the shapes and glazes you want to eat off for the years ahead, and your guests claim the pieces.

We build the registry with you, piece by piece, before the first plate is thrown.

Corporate gifts

Small runs and one-off pieces for teams, clients and occasions. We work through shape, glaze and quantity together, then fire the run in the studio.

04 — The next firing

Tell us what you want to make.

Workshops, custom dinnerware, registry pieces, corporate orders and firings all start the same way — a short conversation about what you have in mind.

  1. 01
    Send the form

Tell us what you are after and roughly when you would like to come in.

  2. 02
    We come back to you

With what is possible, what it costs, and when we can fit you in.

  3. 03
    You come to the studio

Apron on, sleeves up. From there it is clay, hands and patience.
