Graphic design that holds up on press.

Inkwell & Press designs for print — business cards, brochures, posters, packaging and annual reports — built around the stock, the fold and the press the job will actually run on.

The studio

Print is a physical medium. We design for it.

Paper behaves like a material: it has weight, grain and a limit to how much ink it will hold before it gives. We design with that in mind rather than for a screen that flatters everything.

Every job starts with the substrate and the press — what the piece will be written on, folded to, stacked in or pinned to. Files leave here built to spec, with the bleeds, color space and trim the printer needs, so press day holds no surprises.

Services

Five things we design, one press check.

Each service is planned around what the piece has to survive: a pocket, a mailer, a wall, a shelf, a boardroom table.

  1. 01 Business cards

Stock, weight and finish chosen for the hand it lands in, with trim and bleed set so nothing drifts when the cutter runs.

  2. 02 Brochures

Folds, spreads and reading order planned together, so a page turn lands where the reader expects it.

  3. 03 Posters

Scale and viewing distance decided first, so the type still reads from across a room and across a street.

  4. 04 Packaging

Die lines, glues and panels drawn as one object, then folded and dry-fitted before artwork goes anywhere near it.

  5. 05 Annual reports

Long documents with a steady rhythm: charts, dividers and tables that stay legible on uncoated stock.

From file to press sheet

Three stops on the way to the press.

Proofing the layout, choosing the stock and dry-fitting the die line — the parts of a print job that decide how the finished piece feels in the hand.

Proofing

Stock

Substrate first — the paper settles half the decisions that follow.

Die lines

Most projects begin with quantity, stock and deadline — the three things that shape a design, not the other way around.
