Services

Six kinds of ground work, one outfit.

Every job below is work we take on directly — cut, shaped and finished on your property, from the first pass to the final grade.

01 — Clearing and foundations

01.1

Site clearing

Brush, cedar and rock pushed out and hauled off, with stumps grubbed below grade so a slab or a barn pad has clean, compactable ground under it.

01.2

Foundation excavation

Footings, basements and crawl spaces dug to the elevations on your plans, with the spoil stockpiled where it will not be in the way of the next trade on site.

02 — Water, grade and access

02.1

Septic installation

Tank holes, leach fields and the lines between them, dug to the dimensions on your permit and backfilled so the field stays level and drains the way it was designed to.

02.2

Grading and drainage

Pad sites, building lots and ranch roads cut and shaped to shed water away from the house, the barn and the driveway instead of toward them.

02.3

Driveway cutting

New driveways cut in from the county road, crowned and built up so they hold through a wet spring and a loaded trailer in the same week.

03 — Utility trenching

03.1

Water, power, gas and fiber, run at the depth the code calls for.

Clean trench bottom, proper bedding, and backfill compacted in lifts so the line does not settle out from under itself two winters from now.

What is under the grass sets the pace — caliche and cobble run slower than loam. Call and describe the ground, and we will tell you what to expect before the first cut.

How a job runs

Walk it. Set the grade. Cut it.

Rural ground is not a subdivision lot. We look at it with you first, because the water, the utilities and the truck access decide most of the job.

  1. 01

    Walk the site

Where the water goes now, where the lines run, and where a loaded truck can actually turn around and get back out.

  2. 02

    Set the grade

Stakes and elevations are set before a bucket touches the dirt, so the pad, the driveway and the drainage all agree with one another.

  3. 03

    Cut, shape and finish

Spoil is hauled off or stockpiled where you want it, and the ground is shaped, crowned and compacted to the plan you approved.

Where we work

Out past town, where the road turns to gravel.

Gravel Run works on rural and ranch properties in and around Cortez — acreage tracts, county roads, and land where the driveway is a project of its own. If the nearest utility pole is a long way from the house, that is normal ground for us.

  • Building pads and barn sites on raw acreage
  • New driveways, culverts and road approaches
  • Water, power and septic lines across open ground
  • Drainage shaped to move spring runoff away from structures
