The marine layer
San Diego mornings arrive in gray. The fog sits low on the water and holds the coast in soft focus, hiding almost everything — including, sometimes, the point of the day.
Then the layer burns off, and for a little while the light goes loose and gold. That hour is the work: unhurried, mostly unposed, photographed at a little distance so the two of you can stay inside it.
