Bend, Oregon — trail running club

You don't have to be fast to belong.

Foxtail is a club for the first mile: easy group runs, beginner clinics, and a race series where the back of the pack gets the loudest cheer.

First mile first. The rest can wait.

Every club run starts here. Shoes on, nobody watching the clock.

The first mile, marked

Start

The first mile is the whole point.

Most clubs talk about pace. We'd rather talk about turning up. Here is exactly what happens when you come out for the first time — no guesswork, no standing around hoping someone says hello.

Everyone here started somewhere. Almost nobody started fast.

  1. 01

    Show up as you are

Trail shoes if you have them, road shoes if you don't. Bring water and a layer. That is the entire kit list.

  2. 02

    We circle up first

Every run opens with a quick circle: who is here, where we are going, and who is sweeping the back of the group.

  3. 03

    Run your own mile

Go as far as feels right. There is always somebody at your pace, and there is always somebody behind you.

  4. 04

    Stay for the after

Runs finish where they started and nobody leaves straight away. The talking is half the run.

Crew

Every week, a run goes out.

Same shape every time. Meet at the trailhead, circle up, run, regroup at the end. You can come once or come every week — both count.

  • Route posted ahead

We share the meeting spot and the route before each run, so you know where to be and what you're in for.

  • Always a sweep

Someone stays at the back of every group. You will not be left alone on the trail.

  • Your pace counts

Walk the climbs, jog the flats, take the shortcut. All of it is a run.

  • We finish together

The group regroups at the end. Stick around — that's where the club actually happens.

Breathe

Start with a clinic.

Beginner clinics are built for the first mile: small groups, an easy pace, and time to ask every question you've got. Downhills, uphills, water, weather — all of it.

  • Downhill footing

How to stay upright and relaxed when the trail drops away underneath you.

  • Uphills without panic

When to run, when to hike, and why hiking absolutely counts as running.

  • Kits that work

Shoes, water and layers — what you actually need on a trail around Bend.

Beyond the first mile

Past the first mile.

Clinics and weekly runs are the front door. Behind it: a race series, gear to try on real trail, and the work that keeps these trails running for everybody.

Race series

Races on the trails we run all year.

A season of club races that start and finish on home ground, put on by the same people who sweep the weekly runs. Line up as a first-timer or chase a time — nobody is watching the clock but you.

  • Run by the club, on the trails we know best
  • First-timers and fast packs on the same start line
  • The finish line stays up for the last runner in

Gear demos

On demo days, loaner shoes and packs go on your feet out on real trail — a route long enough to feel the difference between one pair and the next.

Volunteer trail work

On work days the club trades a run for a work party: clearing overgrown sections, opening up drainage, and giving something back to the trails we use every week.

Come out once. Decide after.

There is no tryout and no minimum pace. Pick the door that suits you, meet the sweep, and see how a run feels with other people around you.

Start with a weekly run

The lowest-commitment way in. Meet at the trailhead, circle up with the group, run your own mile, and stay for the after.
