Shot 01 — The floor

One song. Everybody watching. Let's rehearse it.

Your first dance is about three minutes long. We treat it like a scene: the walk-in, the first turn, the middle where it gets fun, and the dip. You rehearse it in our Austin studio until it stops being a routine and starts being yours.

The shot list

From the walk-in to the dip.

Shot 01 was the empty floor. These are the four that decide how the night goes — and every package is just a way of rehearsing them. Start with the shot you're most worried about.

Wide

The walk-in

The MC says your names and the whole room turns. You have the length of the intro to cross the floor, find your hold and breathe out. Most couples rush this part. We rehearse it until it's slow.

Close

The first turn

Hands find their place, the count starts, and the two of you stop looking at your feet. This is the shot where the song stops being background noise and starts being something you're doing together.

Medium

The middle

Shot four: the part where you stop counting and start dancing. It arrives somewhere past the first chorus, and you can't force it. You can only get there often enough that it shows up on the night.

The dip

The last chord lands, you hold the shape, and the room is on its feet. This is the one shot everybody photographs, and the one that only works if the four shots before it did.

Director's note

Nobody is watching in here. That's the whole point of the room.

Rehearsal

No audience. Just the two of you and the count.

Our studio is in Austin, and it's where the work actually happens — the same four walls, the same floor, week after week, until the song stops surprising you. Come in with a song you love and a date on the calendar, and we'll take it from there.
