Member-run tool library & repair bench
Copper Creek is a tool library with a repair bench bolted to the other end of it. Borrow the ladder for the weekend, or bring the toaster that stopped toasting and sit down with the crew that fixes things.
Members borrow the tools. Volunteers keep them working. Both happen at the same long bench in Spokane.
Two tags, one clamp. What comes off one end of the bench usually goes back on at the other.
Tonight's board
Tools waiting to go out on one side, jobs booked onto the repair bench on the other. Reserve a tool and we'll hold it at the front desk for you.
If the part isn't on the shelf, we'll tell you straight and hold your place for the next workshop. How the repair bench works
How the bench works
One card covers both ends of the bench — borrowing on one side, repair slots on the other.
Pick a tool off tonight's list and we'll set it aside. Bring the card, take the tool, get on with the job.
Clean and complete beats fast. Returned tools go straight back on the peg for the next person.
If it stopped working, book a bench slot and sit down with the crew while they work on it.
Membership
Borrow tools, book a repair slot, and stand a shift if you want to. That's the whole arrangement.
The other half of the bench
The repair bench isn't a service counter. It's a table with tools on it and people who would rather fix a thing than replace it. Pull up a stool and get your hands in.
Small appliances, lamps, bikes, garden tools, and the odd thing that just stopped. If it fits through the door, it goes on the bench.
A volunteer walks the fix through with you, screw by screw, so the next one you can do at your own kitchen table.
If the part isn't on the shelf, we'll tell you straight and hold your slot for the next workshop.
The volunteer repair crew
The crew is whoever shows up. Some have been taking things apart for decades; some learned on the stool next to them. What holds it together is people who will hand you the right driver and let you make the mistake yourself.
Meet members at the door, write down what came in, and point them toward the right end of the bench.
Take a stool beside someone and work through it together. Patience counts for more than expertise.
Check returned tools back in, sharpen what needs it, and flag anything that needs a proper look.
