The first lights come on while the sky is still warm and the gravel still holds the heat of the day. Fixtures set low along the walk trace the route from driveway to door and mark every grade change before anyone has to guess at it.
Dusk is for the places you sit. We light the underside of the ramada, the wall behind the seating and the edge of the patio — enough to read a face and find a glass, never enough to feel like a parking lot.
Full dark is when the desert disappears. A narrow beam at the base sends a saguaro up into the black so the ribs read from the far side of the yard — same for the palo verde, the ironwood, the boulder you stopped noticing years ago.
Some yards only make sense as one drawing. We plan the whole property — path, patio, steps and specimen trees — as a single night, then set the lighting so the yard comes up in layers instead of all at once.
If you're inside the county line, you're most likely in range. Ask anyway — we'll tell you straight.
