Wedding cakes & dessert tables — Burlington, Vermont

Come hungry.
Leave with a cake plan.

A tasting at Butter & Birch is a sit-down flight — cake, buttercream and filling side by side on the table, a fork each, and the two of you across from us. Bring the guest count, the venue, and the ideas you have not finished yet.

How a tasting works

Fork first, fondant later.

We sit you down with the flight in front of you and work through it together — cake, buttercream, filling, and the sweets that would sit alongside it on the day. You talk, we take notes, and nothing gets decided until it has been tasted.

01

Tell us about the day

Guest count, season, venue, the colors you keep saving. Everything you already know, and everything you do not.

02

We plate the flight

Cake, buttercream and filling side by side, plus a look at the cupcake and dessert-table extras.

03

We talk tiers

Shapes, heights, finish, and how the cake holds up on the table and in the photographs.

04

You leave with a plan

A written plan for your cake and dessert table, and what it takes to hold your date.

Wedding cakes

Tiers that hold up and cut clean.

Custom wedding cakes built around your day — how many tiers, what shape, what finish, what flavor — worked out with you long before anything goes in the oven.

Design

We sketch the cake with you: tier count, silhouette, texture, color, and how it sits with the rest of the room.

Flavor

Cake, buttercream and filling chosen from the flight you tasted — not from a photograph on a screen.

Finish

Smooth, textured or semi-naked, dressed to the style you have asked for, and built to look right in the photographs.

Scale

From a small cutting cake to a full tiered centerpiece, sized to your guest count and your table.

Cupcake towers & dessert bars

Feed the room without the queue.

Cupcake towers and dessert bars for the parts of the day when everyone is on their feet — a run of cupcakes, small tarts and bite-size sweets, arranged so guests help themselves and get back to the dancing.

Cupcake towers

Stacked and styled as a centerpiece in their own right, in the flavors you chose at the tasting.

Dessert bars

A spread along one table, portioned for a crowd, so the sweets keep coming as the evening runs on.

Alongside the cake

Built to sit with your wedding cake — same flavors, same colors, one table that reads as a whole.

Tasting boxes

Take the flight home.

If Burlington is a drive, or you would rather taste with family around the table, we pack the flight into a tasting box — the same cakes and buttercreams, boxed up and sent out to you.

Taste at your own kitchen table, talk through the fillings, then book the consultation and we will go from there.

Gluten-free options

Same table. Same cake. No separate plate.

Gluten-free options run right through the tasting and the dessert table, so nobody at your wedding gets handed something different and quietly left out of the toast.

Reserve your tasting

In the tasting

Gluten-free cake and buttercream sit in the same flight, side by side with everything else.

On the dessert table

Gluten-free cupcakes and sweets are made and plated as part of the spread, not kept behind the counter.

In the slice

A gluten-free tier can stand on the same cake, so every slice comes from the same centerpiece.

Reserve

Pick a date. Bring a fork.

Tastings are by appointment at the bakehouse in Burlington. Tell us when you are free and what you are planning, and we will set the table.

  • Your wedding date, if you have one — and the season you are leaning toward if you do not.
  • A rough guest count, so we know how much cake we are talking about.
  • The venue, the colors, the ideas you have been saving.
  • Anyone else who should be tasting with you.
