If it hurts tonight

What to do between now and morning.

Most toothaches can wait for an appointment. A few can't. Here's how to tell the difference, and what to do while you wait for the office to open.

  1. 01

    Rinse, and keep it cool

Warm salt water, rinsed gently. A cold pack on the outside of the cheek if there's swelling. Nothing hot against a sore tooth.

  2. 02

    Take the edge off

Over-the-counter pain relief, following the label. Don't hold an aspirin against the gum — it burns the tissue.

  3. 03

    Watch the swelling

Swelling that spreads toward the eye or jaw, a fever, or trouble swallowing is not a wait-until-morning thing.

  4. 04

    Save whatever broke

A crown that came off, a piece of tooth, a tooth that was knocked out — keep it and bring it with you. Milk is a good place to keep a tooth on the way.

Daylight

The ordinary week is most of what we do.

A cleaning on a Tuesday, a small filling caught early, a kid's first check-up. Unhurried, explained as we go, and nothing happens in your mouth before you know why.

Emergency visits are part of the practice too — so if something hurts, start with the four steps above and tell us in the form.

01

Cleanings

Twice a year, or whenever it's been a while. We start from today, not from the gap.

02

Fillings

Small ones caught early are the easiest visits we do. Most are done in a single sitting.

03

Crowns

For teeth that cracked or wore down. You'll see what's happening and why before anything starts.

04

Whitening

We'll tell you plainly what it will shift and what it won't.

05

Kids' dentistry

First visits, check-ups, and a chair that isn't scary. We'd rather they leave bored than frightened.

06

Emergency visits

When it can't wait, start with the four steps above, then send the form. Say what's going on.

Not sure which one you need? Describe it in the form — that's enough for us to point you the right way.

Bring with you

  • Your insurance card, if you have one
  • A list of anything you take regularly
  • The thing you're most worried about

What to expect

A first visit shouldn't feel like an exam.

You'll get the plain version of what we see, what matters now, and what can wait. Nothing happens in your mouth before you know why.

01

We ask before we look

You'll get a heads-up on what's coming and what it involves before anything begins.

02

Kids set the pace

Short visits, small steps, and no rushing a child who needs a minute to settle in.

03

One thing at a time

If there's a list, we'll say what's urgent and what can honestly wait until next year.

04

You get the plain version

No jargon. If we're watching something, we'll say why and when we'll look again.

Book ahead

Tell us a good time and we'll take it from there.

A cleaning, a crown, a first visit for a kid, a tooth that's been aching — leave a note and we'll come back with a time that works.

If it hurts right now, the four steps above are the faster path. Say so in your note and we'll treat it that way.

Have you been in before?

Requests reach the office and we reply as soon as we're back at the desk. If it hurts tonight, start with the four steps above.
