Boise dust, or Ada County hard water?

Two things happen to rooftop solar out here every summer, and both of them happen quietly. Here's what we look for on a Valley roof.

Are your panels dull by August?

Dust moves in off the foothills and settles on the glass. It doesn't look like much from the ground — a thin film you'd never notice from the driveway.

Do you get white spots after a rain?

If your water leaves spots on the car, it's leaving them on the array too. Those minerals dry onto hot glass and stay put, which is why we rinse the glass clean rather than scrub the spots deeper in.

Is something nesting above the roof?

Birds drop on the panels and along the rails, and leaf litter collects in the gaps. Debris holds moisture against the frame and shades the cells underneath it.

The wash Three passes

Three passes, start to finish.

Loose dust first, then the wash, then the rinse. Here's the order of work on every array we touch.

Pre-rinse

We knock the loose dust off first. Rinsing before washing keeps grit from being dragged across the glass.

Wash & agitate

A soft-bristle wash over the whole array, lifting the film and the droppings off the surface, panel by panel.

Final rinse

Everything gets rinsed clean and checked from the ground. Nothing is left to dry on hot glass.
