Bridge City Stageworks
A single chair on an empty stage floor under a narrow beam of light

Duluth, Minnesota

One light. Everything else is what we do with the dark.

Bridge City Stageworks is a theater company on the shore of Lake Superior — mainstage productions, youth classes, staged readings and community workshops. The house lights go down, somebody aims the beam, and the rest is ours to make together.

01 — Mainstage productions

You're in the light. Stay for the season.

Every mainstage production starts the same way: the house lights fall, the beam finds one person on a dark stage, and a room full of strangers agrees to watch the same thing at the same time. A season pass holds your seat in that room — production after production, all season long.

02 — Youth classes

Somebody turns the light on early.

Youth classes bring young actors into the same rooms this company works in — a stage, a teacher, and a group of kids finding out how it feels to be looked at.

They learn to stand in a beam and be seen. Most of them learn it faster than the adults do.

03 — Community workshops

The house opens to the harbor.

Community workshops are open sessions for Duluth — for anyone who has ever wanted to stand on a stage, or stand beside one and learn how the light gets aimed.

No experience assumed. Come once, or come for the whole session.

04 — Staged readings

No set. No costumes. One bare light and the words.

Staged readings put a play on its feet before it has anything to hide behind — actors at music stands, scripts in hand, the audience close enough to hear the pages turn.

05 — Season passes and giving

A lamp is not self-lighting.

Tickets cover part of a season. They don't cover the youth classes, the staged readings, the community workshops — the nights when forty people sit in the dark and something new happens in front of them. Season passes and individual donations are what keep the beam on.

Season passes

A seat at every mainstage production of the season, and a reason to be in the room when the house lights fall.

Individual donations

Youth classes, staged readings and community workshops — the parts of this company that don't pay for themselves.
