Annapolis, Maryland

Plan now for the season you’ll actually use.

Screened porches, composite decks, covered pergolas and dock work around Annapolis — planned in the quiet months so the warm ones are spent outside.

01 — The Spring Build Calendar

From the first site walk to the first long evening.

Spring books first. The most useful thing you can do in the quiet months is decide what you want built, and when you want it finished. Here’s how a Blue Heron season comes together.

Plan

December – February

This is when the year’s builds get decided. We walk the site with you, talk about how you actually use the yard, and settle the shape of the project before anything is ordered. Choosing composite decking, weighing resurfacing against a rebuild, and getting dock and pier work looked at properly all belong here, while the calendar is quiet.

  • Composite decking
  • Deck resurfacing
  • Dock & pier repair
02

Design

March – April

Drawings, materials and a clear scope. Screened porch layouts, covered pergola spans, railings and stairs — decided on paper so the build runs without on-the-fly changes. You’ll know what’s being built, and what it will look like, before the first board is cut.

  • Screened porches
  • Covered pergolas
  • Railings & stairs

Build

May – June

Crews on site through the good weather: composite decking, screened porch framing and screens, covered pergolas, railings and stairs — plus any dock or pier repair the winter turned up. Work moves fastest when the decisions were all made in the phases before it.

Enjoy

July – August

Long evenings, shade at midday, screens between you and the mosquitoes, and a table that stays outside all season. It’s the phase the other three are built around — and the reason the first one starts in December.

02 — What we build

Six ways to extend the season.

  1. 01

    Composite decking

Low-maintenance boards that hold their colour through Chesapeake humidity and high summer sun. Framing, stairs and fascia handled as one job rather than three.

    Dec – Mar
  2. 02

    Screened porches

A porch that keeps the mosquitoes out and the view in — framing, screens, doors and finish, sized to the way you actually sit outside.

    Jan – Apr
  3. 03

    Covered pergolas

Shade with defined edges. A roof line over a deck that makes the space usable at midday, when a bare deck isn’t.

    Jan – Apr
  4. 04

    Dock & pier repair

Decking, stringers, pilings and railings out on the water — repaired before the season starts rather than in the middle of it.

    Feb – May
  5. 05

    Railings & stairs

Rails, gates and stairs that match the deck, take the traffic, and read as part of the original build instead of an addition.

    Mar – May
  6. 06

    Deck resurfacing

Keep the frame, replace the surface. Often the fastest route to a deck that looks and feels new, and the easiest one to fit into a spring window.

03 — On the water

Docks and piers keep their own calendar.

Waterfront work around Annapolis keeps a season of its own — tides, weather, and the ice that moves pilings around. The best window for dock and pier repair comes earlier in the year than most people expect, which is why it belongs in the planning phase rather than the summer one.

  • Decking and stringers replaced where the weather has taken them
  • Pilings that have shifted over the winter
  • Railings and stairs down to the water line

04 — Reserve your season

Book a spring or summer design consultation.

Tell us what you’re thinking about and when you’d like it finished. Consultations booked in the quiet months are the ones that get built first when the weather turns.

  1. 01We get back to you to set a time that works.
  2. 02We walk the site with you and talk through the options.
  3. 03You get a plan and a place in the season.
